INDIELISBOA:
Call for entries 2008

Film submissions for the 5th edition of IndieLisboa – Lisbon International Film Festival are now open in www.indielisboa.com. IndieLisboa is a crucial event to meet the most recent and interesting works of independent cinema from all over the world and discover new films and new directors.

It’s fifth edition will be held from the 24th April to the 4th Mai and will comprehend a Competition section, for first and second films (shorts and features); the Observatory, for films by directors who already have more than two films; the Laboratory, for more radical and unclassifiable works; the Independent Hero, an homage section, and IndieJunior, a section specially for the youngsters.

The festival will also comprehend two sections which became emblematic in previous editions: IndieMusic, where music and musicians are the main characters in the films screened and concerts presented, and Director’s Cut, a section that presents movies about cinema history, great movies and great directors.

IndieLisboa is also a fantastic meeting point for directors, producers, programmers, journalists and film students. Among our several events are included the Lisbon Screenings, which aim to promote Portuguese movies among programmers and distributors, and the Lisbon Talks, master classes and debates about cinema and industry.

The best film in Competition is awarded with the Feature Film Grand Prize City of Lisbon (15.000 euros) and the best short with the Short Film Grand Prize (3.000). There is also the Distribution Award for Features to help to promote and support the independent movie distribution in Portugal. Other prizes comprise Best Portuguese Feature, Best Portuguese Short, Best Cinematography in a Portuguese Movie, Fipresci Award, Amnesty International Award, Audience Awards and an IndieJúnior Audience Award.

In four years, IndieLisboa became the most important film festival in Portugal and should certainly figure as an important date on the international annual festival calendar. In 2007, the festival screened 270 hundred films to over 35500 people, more 7400 than last edition. Among them 6000 children attended the IndieJunior screenings. The festival was also attended by 600 guests (directors, actors, journalists, industry professionals), a 50% increase comparing with the previous year.
