THE LIFE AND HARD TIMES OF GUY TERRIFICO está para a história da country americana como “A Vida de Brian” dos Monthy Python estava para a história de Jesus. Na esteira de filmes como “This Is Spinal Tap”, este documentário de Michael Mabbot funciona a um tempo como uma sátira inteligente e um retrato hilariante da indústria musical. O Guy Terrifico que dá título ao filme é uma lenda (tal como o Brian dos Python) da música country que, em 1971, no auge da sua carreira (mas sem nunca ter gravado nenhum disco), desapareceu numa nuvem de álcool, comprimidos e tiros. Trinta anos depois, qual voz vinda do além, Terrifico lança o seu primeiro álbum e os seus fãs, onde se contam os nomes de Phil Kauffman, Kris Kristofersson, Levon Helm, e Merle Haggard, reúnem-se para recordar a história do “anjo que empunhava uma guitarra em vez da harpa”.

In 1971, Guy Terrifico was at the zenith of his career. Moments later, in a blaze of whiskey, pills, canceled shows and gun shots his career was over and so - allegedly - was his life. At least so everyone thought until something truly weird happened; 30 years after his "death" a new Guy Terrifico album is released. Naturally this has raised some questions because, as Merle Haggard observes, "It's real hard to sing when you're dead." The strange and debatably short life of Guy Terrifico takes us from the wilds of Canada to the wild times of Nashville and London. Fondly remembered by his contemporaries like Kris Kristofferson, Ronnie Hawkins, Levon Helm and Merle Haggard, Guy's life story is told throw a combination of modern day interviews with his old cohorts and archival footage of Guy back in the day.
