Um road-movie em Portugal ou um road-movie sobre Portugal? Provavelmente o filme existe na confluência destas duas hipóteses. Portugal 2004, no rescaldo do Europeu de futebol. Um projecto: atravessar o país de norte a sul (seis horas) e de leste a oeste (hora e meia). Viagens numa terra pouco mais pequena que o estado do Indiana, nos EUA. A bordo do Rocinante, um velho Mercedes, a descoberta (ou a confirmação) de uma paisagem irreconhecível, de um território em profunda transformação: autoestradas que rasgam o país criando uma falsa ideia de velocidade, agricultura em vias de extinção, gigantescas áreas comerciais. Por debaixo de tudo isto, escondem-se memórias individuais e colectivas. E uma canção cola-se-nos à pele: “Hide on the promenade, etch a postcard: How I dearly wish I was not here in the seaside town that they forgot to bomb. Come, come, come – nuclear bomb...”

A road movie through the changes in the the portuguese landscape and cities in the last 30 years, looking mostly at the areas involved in the European Football Cup of 2004 that took place in Portugal.

Nascido em Lisboa, Daniel Blaufuks é fotógrafo, cineasta e professor. Também frequentou o International Studio and Curatorial Program, e o Location One, ambos em Nova Iorque. Deu aulas no AR.CO, ETIC, EPI, Maumaus (da qual é também fundador), todas em Lisboa, e na SESC, no Rio de Janeiro.

Born in Lisbon, Portugal. He’s a photographer, film director, and a teacher. Studied at AR. CO, in Lisbon, at Royal College of Art in London, and at the Watermill Center in New York. He also frequented the International Studio and Curatorial Program, and the Location One, both in New York. Teacher at AR. CO, ETIC, EPI, Maumaus (cofounder), in Lisbon, and at SESC, in Rio de Janeiro.

"No Verão passado atravessei Portugal para filmar o meu projecto: sobre um país que se atravessa em seis horas de norte a sul e em hora e meia de leste a oeste. A paisagem que percorremos, o João Ribeiro e eu, era o Portugal pós-Euro 2004 e prestes a entrar no governo provisório de Santana Lopes. É um país parecido com a imagem que todos nós ainda temos da “nossa terra”, mas que já deixou de corresponder à realidade e é quase irreconhecível, como num postal. Foi esse pensamento que me levou a querer fazer este filme e que esta viagem, feita num velho Mercedes, apelidado de Rocinante, veio confirmar, por vezes, de forma assustadora.”

"Last Summer, I traveled across Portugal to shoot my project: a road-movie about a country that can be crossed in six hours from north to south and just one hour and a half from east to west. The landscape we passed through, (camera) João Ribeiro and I, was the post-Euro 2004 Portugal, with the provisional government of Santana Lopes about to take office. It is a country that still seems like the idea we all have of "our homeland", but which actually no longer corresponds to reality and is becoming almost unrecognizable, as in a postcard. It was this notion that led me to want to make this film, and this journey in an old Mercedes named Rocinante, eventually confirmed it, sometimes in an alarming way."
