INDIELISBOA is a privileged event to meet the most recent and interesting works of independent cinema from all over the world. The main aim of the Festival is to discover new films and new directors, in the universe of independent cinema.

In only two years, IndieLisboa has positioned as being one of the most important film festivals in Portugal, featuring around 200 films coming from all over the world. Last year, the festival alone drew in an attendance of 17.000 people, an extraordinary growth when compared with the debut edition only 7 months before, which drew in an attendance of 12.000 people.

In 2005, the festival was attended by 200 guests. This represents a 30% increase since 2004, being that the foreigner guests alone registered a 70% increase since IndieLisboa’s first edition.

IndieLisboa, which is held in Lisbon, one of the most fascinating European capitals, is acknowledged for its warm reception to all guests, which have included John Cooper, Emmanuel Burdeau, Maria Trénor, Irena Taskovsky, Vincent Lecuyer, Pablo Stoll, Jukka Pekka Laakso, Bertrand Loute, Quintín (Eduardo Antin), Ross Kauffman, Jia Zhangke, Ilya Khrzhanovsky, Eugène Green, Ken Wardrop, Olaf Möller, Ilda Santiago, Margaret Von Schiller, Kieron Corless, Pieter Fleury, Lisandro Alonso, amongst many others.

Next April, and for ten days long, IndieLisboa will feature, in addition to its international competition of short and feature films, national and international premieres, IndieJúnior (a special children films section), round-tables, panels, exhibitions and, of course, parties!

But this third edition brings even more news: besides having added a new section – Laboratory - for more experimental shorts and features, this year submissions also opened for IndieJunior (international competition for children’s films). The competition for short films will have a specific jury and the festival will welcome for the first time the prestigious FIPRESCI award.
